Being your own boss, making your own rules, reporting to no one but you—at-home careers are wonderful, but they do take profound people to successfully run an at-home business. There are many home based fashion careers that are amazing, you just have to find out which one is for you, they all will entail the same order of operations. Some great careers are: handbag designing, fashion consulting, at-home hair salon, freelance fashion journalism, Public Relations, Visual presentation designers, to name a few. Generally speaking with any of the above mentioned careers it will take a few steps to be your own boss and then you are good to go:
BEING YOUR OWN BOSS
Money for up-start, loans, savings, fund-raising campaigns are all ways you can make money to buy the material you need to do work with clients. In addition to the necessities to getting the job done—a computer for a writer, a blow dryer for a hair stylist—I would include a check book, a daily planner, a storage area for extra supplies in case something goes wrong as you are on a deadline or with a client. Think out of the box and make a checklist of what you think you will need. You will also have to become god at Marketing/networking your services, start a marketing campaign, join social media, spread the word, take out an ad in the yellow pages and bring traffic to your business by exploring areas that are related to your practice.
MAKING YOUR OWN RULES
Here is the fun part and the reasons why you many want to get started on your home business. Draw up answers to questions like this: how late are you open or available in the day? What are your payment options? How many Projects/clients will you work on/with in a day? Making your rules is as much fun as it has to deal with responsibility. You have to keep your word and make deadlines, check-up meetings, and delivering results in a timely manner, time management is your worst enemy with this freedom so report to a chart and calendar frequently, have your emails on alert and have your ringer on your cell phone set to LOUD. The great aspect of working from home is the time you can spend with peers, family, friends, you’re significant people in your life while working. If you can multitask then your life can be lavish.
REPORTING TO NO ONE
Well for the most part you will be reporting to no one but yourself, but your clients/customers will allows play a pivotal role in your decision making process. You’ll end up reporting to your daily statistics, how well did you do that day, did you meet your goals, in comparison to days before what’s your process, and were any mistakes or complaints made. Get very familiar with keeping track of these important factors. As you review your stats you’re going to learn a lot about yourself, your business, and your clientele. I also highly suggest that you make it optional for your clients to give you feedback, opinions, experiences, advice; this is the best way to grow.
