When You Wear Make-Up At Work, People Take You Seriously

Make-up at work is professional. I worked at Walgreens once upon a time ago; I became close friends with the employee in cosmetics. I learned then that my cosmetic friend had to look good to be taken seriously as she sold cosmetic items. People sell products more than the product itself. If you are pitching beauty, then you have to look as though you believe in your speech—by being beautiful. Make-up has seriously progressed in the work field; I’ve witnessed the different customer reactions to my female manager with make-up and without. I’ve seen the same thing happen with front desk concierge workers. Customers see morning hair, the dry skin, the average Joe behind the counter and they think laziness, un-professional, and not of best quality. Because being professional really implies that one is hard working, ultimately. From the store front looking as though it was hard to structure to a woman’s make-up looking as though it took hours to do. Make-up glows, dim or bright it glows in a way that wakens people, makes their mood better, and makes them admire your creative process. These are all things that make people take you seriously at work; they’re more alert when you speak, because your colors have sparked something in their mind relating you to art. But the true key to success through make-up is the confidence and demeanor make-up will give you. Women put on make-up to look sophisticated, be sexy cute or class correct? Well ass a face to the place you work for, you are reflecting that the environment there is classy etc. You are the mirror to your business, so take time in the mirror with your make-up to show people what you are all about.

As for men, make-up is mostly out of the picture, some cosmetics that refresh our skin are good. Lotion is at the top of the list, but men that are well groomed also are taken more seriously in the work place. I speak from firsthand experience. I myself have long hair, so I’ve shown up to work with it somewhat messy and I’ve also zoomed over to work fresh from my hair stylists home. Men already have the stereotype of being lazy so we actually have to work harder than you women—I know someone wants to kill me now so I take it back, we work just as hard, but do consider that your appearance will determine how you are treated at work. Customers/clients many only have 30 seconds or less to judge you and the business you represent. Where do they go first—they react to what they’re EYES see.
