Looking Good is a Job That Takes Motivation, New York

‘She’s trying too hard’, ‘that’s just too much work to get ready’, ‘look at her.’ This is what is mumbled, spoken aloud, and blogged about, but the importance is people are noticing. Yes they are noticing how good you look, but in the words they use they are noticing the work it takes to be you.  Well, we’d like this acknowledgement to surface wouldn’t we? They notice, but they don’t really comprehend. Looking good is a job, a shift that starts earlier and earlier as you get older. A graveyard shift that really will make you feel like you’re doing a double. From work to the gym to the vanity—it really takes motivation.

A few things will give a woman horsepower to travel in the fast-fashion-lane of cosmetics and class. Maintaining beauty will be done simply because you love to look good or because you have a special day coming up, a weight goal to achieve (which you will!), and so on. No matter the reason why, the reason how is the same. It will always take time management: beating traffic to make hair, feet, nail, and massage appointments. Organizational skills, because time doesn’t like you, it never did, it wants you to leave the house with two different colors socks or at least a ripped pair of stockings on your way out; so a checklist comes in handy. Did I eat? Pack my mirror, extra lipstick, lint brush, perfume, extra bra, cell phone, headphones, hair ties and clips, comb, hair brush, and purse. Women endure the most exhausting but uplifting workout schedule, at home or at the gym, a woman will go hard for their abs. It takes money, which is achieved through working, and beauty is expensive so we work long shifts to meet our needs.

It doesn’t look simple, and it isn’t a simple process. It is an acquired status that takes a lifecycle of practice, learning, and thinking of reasons to be motivated. Yet, aside to the hardships, the final results are worth it, the daily journey is fun. They say you will never have to work a day in your life if you love your job, well everyone has their off days but ultimately looking good brings you something rare and exciting. It’s a rush, a legal drug, and something you’ve done all alone that you feel at every scheduled vanity appointment. Or you may have your favorite salon’s that take care of you, but you always feel taken care of. It should be illegal to look that good, so keep breaking the laws of mental, physical, and spiritual strength, and look good all the way to the grave; you are well respected in my book.
