How I Adjusted From a Small Town to The Big Apple

I started school in South Florida about 20 minutes from where I grew up. I thought since I was decent at Biology in high school why not go into the medical field? So, I got into a pre-dental program and thought that would be my path. I thought I would be like every other chick from my town. Go to school, get a decent job, find an average guy and that would be my life. After a year of doing what everyone expected of me I came to realize how much I disliked what I was doing. It had no meaning and I had no passion. I needed passion, something different, something special and something that suited me and the life I’ve always wanted to live. Where to go next? New York. I got into FIT and I got on the next plane, well not literally the next plane but I started the following fall. When I first got here I hated it. No one was nice and I didn’t understand the city at all. Then I met my best friend and life got better fast. I went out at night, networked, got a kick ass internship at Allure magazine. Things were falling into place. New York is one of those places that you love or hate. No one “likes” New York. There are days when I wake up and its raining outside, I get three cabs stolen from me, stabbed in the eye with an umbrella, spill my rain coffee all over my cream top, yelled at by some random girl because I accidentally splashed her when I stepped in the giant puddle with my rain boots and I feel absolutely defeated. Why did I ever move her? Then the next day you wake up and it’s the definition of perfection. Its finally Saturday, you go to brunch with the amazing guy you are dating walk around Central Park. Not the average guy from Florida the exceptionally cool guy from New York. Then you kiss his perfect lips good-bye, walk home, plug in your tunes and realize there is no better place on Earth. If you ever have the indication of wanting to try out New York… DO IT! You can always go back to where you came from if it’s not for you. But there is nothing like it anywhere in the world.
