If you have the opportunity to work with a printing company, Vinyl signs, or shirt company this is a great way to get design experience under your belt. Another great stepping stone is a degree in graphic design through any local or state college, if you have the ability to do this online, most graphic design degrees are available online. Building a portfolio of samples, and references is a great tool to use during interviews as well.
