POSITION SUMMARY
The Sound Program Technician advances Bemis Center’s ambition as a diverse, inclusive, and conceptually-rigorous organization by supporting artists from around the world while serving the region as the premier locale for the presentation and understanding of sound art and experimental music. This team member provides technical and operational support to the Sound Art + Experimental Music Program Artists-in-Residence and for performances at LOW END, Bemis Center’s live music venue. The Sound Program Technician maintains the use of the program’s facilities—rehearsal space, recording studio, green room, and music venue—ensuring all equipment and facilities are up-to-date, organized, and accessible to artists-in-residence, visiting artists, and musicians invited to activate the space. By developing educational workshops for the artists-in-residence, the Sound Program Technician provides and encourages artists of all backgrounds and skill levels to explore new forms of production within and beyond their current artistic practice, particular to sound. The position works closely with members of Bemis Center’s programming department to cultivate and steward partnerships with local, national, and international artists and organizations, creating strategic collaborations that expand the program’s impact and profile. The Sound Program Technician reports directly to the Chief Curator and Director of Programs.
The Sound Program Technician is a full-time, exempt position requiring the flexibility to work varied hours as needed including some weekends/evenings in support of public programs and alternating with team members to serve as a 24-hour emergency contact.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide artists with technical assistance and instruction on software and hardware available in the rehearsal space and recording studio
Provide sound and lighting support for live performances at LOW END and Bemis Center public programs
Assist artists with sound-related equipment, instruments, and software in the development of art projects and/or installations
Assist artists with sourcing art materials, equipment, and services
Oversee, manage, and maintain all sound program facilities and equipment to ensure professional use and condition
Work with the Residency Program Manager and Chief Curator and Director of Programs to provide artists-in-residence information about Bemis Center facilities and resources including tours and orientations; trainings; information about scheduling use of venue and recording studio; and understanding of Bemis Center processes, culture, and safety
Serve as the lead event manager on all public programs (performances, lectures, etc.) presented at LOW END including developing and executing event plans, securing contract services such as sound/lighting engineers and security, and managing the venue
Serve as a liaison between sound artists-in-residence and the community through introductions to other local artists, participants in other art programs, and other professionals in various fields of interest
Help manage annual program budget and vendor payments
Maintain community contacts and strengthen ongoing relationships with cultural and educational institutions to promote the Sound Program
Provide content and information to the communications department to publicize the Sound Program and LOW END performances
Collaborate with the Residency Program Manager to promote open call opportunities
Assist with collecting feedback from artists and audiences to further refine and improve the program
Assist with coordinating internships in collaboration with staff and artists-in-residence
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
MA/Master of Fine Arts degree with two years professional experience or BA/Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with four years of professional experience
Minimum of three years of experience in the field of sound art and/or experimental music including programming in a gallery or music venue context
Curiosity about and passion for artists, contemporary sound art, experimental music and sound art
Highly motivated with aspirations to make a difference in the field
Experience working with artists to realize new projects
Experience teaching or leading workshops on sound equipment and software including Abelton, Max MSP, and Logic Pro
Demonstrated ability in running and maintaining audio/visual equipment
Technical proficiency in software and equipment in recording studios preferred
Organized with an ability to see the big picture while managing micro details
Ability to adapt to change, identify places where help is required, and take initiative to provide it
Experience working in an office environment
Demonstrated experience in serving a support role to advance the work of practicing artists; possess an amiable and professional demeanor at all times
Proficiency in Google Drive; Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; cloud applications (box.com); and image management (Photoshop, etc.)
Communicate clearly with other staff, artists, students, and management
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends
Understand and promote Bemis Center’s mission in a clear, spirited manner

Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and event performance environments and is regularly exposed to dust, odors, fumes, and noise.

Must be able to talk and hear
Must be able to stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel
Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs. without assistance, with the ability to lift up to 80 lbs. as necessary with assistance
Must be able to reach above head and down to the ground while using hand tools, power tools, and other equipment
Must be able to perform low to moderate manual labor
Must be able to crawl, bend, stretch, and climb while performing routine tasks
COMPENSATION
The salary range for this position is $41,000–$46,000/year, commensurate with experience. Benefit package provided including medical, paid holidays, and paid time off.
